“The intent is to educate and encourage womxn to take up space and affect the future at the intersection of art and technology. All of the collective work is being used to train an artificial intelligence model, and generate a new body of work reflecting the collective. This project and exhibition are happening as part of the Thrive Together Network and the Taking. Up. Space. global grassroots initiative.

Lately everywhere you turn there are good and bad comments about Artificial Intelligence and NFTs. Things like “AI is a useful tool for writing.” “AI creates without giving artists credit.” “AI will replace artists.” “NFT scams target artists.” “NFTs are a societal leveler where everyone is equal.” It’s time to learn a little more.
Being someone happiest digging in the soil or making something with my hands, the new virtual landscapes feel foreign. Yet I also thrive on exploring new worlds found in tiny details, travel, and in outer space. The virtual world has provided many wonderful ways for learning and connection. I recently took an in depth herbalism workshop about the rose plant through Matthew Wood School of Herbalism in Minnesota. Learning about and meditating with rose plants with people like me from around the world via the computer was an awesome experience I wouldn’t have been able to have just a few years ago.

When the opportunity to be part of an AI assisted online art project presented itself, admittedly I hesitated. I then realized that the best way to learn about the future is simply by participating in it!
My friend Jen Palmer has created an innovative art project. 34 artists each submitted one piece of art work in various mediums. She fed the images into a program called Playform to “teach” AI using only these images. She is then using the AI to create new pieces which are a representation of our combined artwork. It’s a closed system using only our submitted artwork. Jen is sharing a curated selection of the countless possible images as a virtual exhibit and as collectable NFTs. NFTs for artwork are simply digital files that have information attached to them which documents who owns them. Every time they are sold this info is recorded. That is not always the case with physical artwork.

I’ve dipped my toe into this new world, and you can too. Easily collect free NFT’s from the exhibit through Cent.co using merely your email address. You don’t need an online wallet or anything else. Click the link below to check it out! Who knows, maybe someday they will be worth some currency. Either way it’s a fun, easy, and safe way to learn a little more about this new world. The NFTs from the show are limited in number and are going fast. Don’t miss out.
The Representations exhibit opens May 12! See the remarkable results from a collaboration of art from 34 female identifying artists + Artificial Intelligence.
