Express Your Vibrant Nature by Voting!
Back in June I created a painting around the theme of joy. I’d been talking with my friend Marcelle about how to make a difference in the fall presidential election of 2024. Things were feeling pretty stale. We agreed that the election needed a boost of energy, and we wanted to do what we could to help with that. I set to work painting my version of the joy that I feel in being able to express myself however I choose in our country. Marcelle set to work organizing get out the vote letter writing events.
Since then President Biden stepped down from being a candidate and handed the reigns to Kamala Harris. Instantly you could feel the energy shift! Now there was momentum. Having the opportunity to elect our first black woman president is historic. It will make a difference in the eyes of younger generations, including my young black family members–actually seeing the possibilities and equality in action. It’s pure coincidence that joy seems to be a campaign theme!
Just released are postcards featuring the image of my “Joy” painting. The painting is about the joy of having the freedom to vote, love, worship, express, read, and simply be, whomever and whatever we want. It’s about the freedom to express ourselves how we feel called, and letting our voices be heard. Equality and justice for all! Voting is one of the most important things we can do as Americans. These postcards are meant to help spread the joy of voting in this upcoming election.
All Profits will be donated to Four Directions Vote, a native led non profit organization whose mission is to increase equality at the ballot box all across Indian country. They empower, protect and engage Native American voters.
The back of the cards feature one of my favorite quotes: “They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.” Postcards were printed locally in Portland by a small business and feature a high quality print on 100% recycled paper.
You can use these cards to share a message to your friends and family asking them to please vote. Be as specific or general as you like. Share why voting matters, voting dates, a note of love and encouragement, or even specifically who you want them to support–it’s up to you. You could also use these for postcard writing with a group such as Postcards to Voters.
I’m also raffling off the original painting! It’s 8″ X 10″ acrylic on a wood panel. Ready to hang. Raffle will take place October 15, 2024. All proceeds (less processing fees) will be donated to Four Directions Vote.
This election is more important than ever. It will affect our freedoms, the environment, treating people with respect, moving forward with grace, and keeping our democracy from imploding.
Express your vibrant nature! Your voice and your vote matter. Now’s the time.
